Olwen Foulkes - Recorders
Olwen has a deep love of chamber music playing and founded Ensemble Augelletti in 2019. She performs and talks regularly on BBC Radio 3 and worked with organisations including London Handel Players, Academy of Ancient Music, English Concert, the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment, Dunedin Consort, the Royal Shakespeare Company, Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra, and performed in the 2024 production of ‘Giant’ at the Royal Opera House.
Olwen is particularly interested in curating performances in partnership with specific collections and collaborated with Handel&Hendrix House, the Foundling Museum, the British Museum and the British Library. She has released two solo albums on Barn Cottage Records (Indoor Fireworks-2019, Directed by Handel -2018) to critical acclaim and is currently working on a PhD researching the practices of recorder players working in London between 1670-1730. She is the Assistant Curator at Handel&Hendrix House Museum where her job involves research and collection care.
Olwen is a dedicated teacher and she is an academic lecturer for undergraduates at the Royal Academy of Music and recorder teacher and baroque music coach for the Junior Department of Trinity Laban. She has 9 years experience as a KS1 classroom music teacher at the American School in London.
She graduated from the Royal Academy of Music with distinction and DipRam for her MMus in 2018.
